- Nodal Ministry- Implemented by the Ministry of Textiles.
- A government-backed, dedicated digital e-commerce marketplace built to bring India's ancient handloom and handicraft traditions into the formal online economy.
- Core concept - it's built specifically to solve the "middleman problem" artisans traditionally lost most of the value of their work to intermediaries, so this platform lets them sell directly to buyers online, keeping a larger share of earnings for themselves.
- Target Audience - India's estimated 64.66 lakh handloom and handicraft artisans, with long-term plans to onboard over 60 lakh sellers.
- The Three Strategic Pillars-

1.Seller Support (Dedicated Online Marketplace)
- Elimination of Intermediaries- Directly bridges the gap between rural craftsmen and end consumers, systematically removing multiple tiers of middlemen to ensure fair remuneration.
- Inclusive Onboarding Rail - Provides a simplified, guided digital onboarding process for rural entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), and cooperative producer companies.
- GST Relaxation for Small Sellers - To lower entry barriers for tiny or first-time digital sellers, artisans without a GST registration can enroll using a basic Enrolment ID, allowing them to legally conduct intra-state online sales.
2. Market Access (Direct Buyer Interface)
- Logistics & Commerce Incentives - Enhances the buyer-side consumer experience by offering free shipping, secure payment integration, customer support, and robust purchase protection policies.
- Broad Product Spectrum - Features a curated, multi-category digital directory ranging from apparel, handloom sarees, and furniture to regional crafts, paintings, terracotta lamps, and musical instruments.
3. Heritage Value (Cultural Preservation & Strategic Visibility)
- GI-Tagged Product Focus - Dedicates specialized promotional real estate to amplify high-value, geographically distinct crafts carrying Geographical Indication (GI) status, such as Pashmina shawls, Dhokra decor, and Aipan art.
- ODOP Convergence - Integrates natively with the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative to spur balanced regional economic growth, giving enhanced visibility to traditional masterpieces like Banarasi silk, Chanderi fabric, and Tangail sarees.
- Artisan Storytelling - Humanizes digital commerce by highlighting the historical background and personal journeys of artisan clusters, preserving traditional knowledge systems for future generations.
Socio-Economic and Policy Significance-
- Rural Economic Resilience - Acts as a vital source of off-farm income generation in rural areas, countering urban migration by converting ancestral craftsmanship into commercially viable digital livelihoods.
- Gender Empowerment - A significant portion of the handloom and craft sector consists of women artisans working within decentralized SHG networks; this portal directly unlocks their financial autonomy.
- Atmanirbhar Bharat Core - Serves as a prime operational model of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local by substituting generic imported artifacts with authentic, indigenous handmade goods.
- Inclusive design - sellers without GST registration can still join, using an "Enrolment ID," as long as they sell only within their own state
- Zero-commission, zero registration fee, free shipping model (from earlier phase of the initiative) meant to remove financial barriers for small artisans
- Integrated with ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) for wider visibility
- Showcases GI (Geographical Indication) tagged products and ODOP (One District One Product) items gives regional crafts better visibility
- Products range across apparel, home décor, furnishings, paintings, furniture, jewellery, bags, footwear, religious items, stationery, musical instruments
- Support features - multilingual/regional language seller assistance, seller training on photography/pricing/customer handling, secure payments, purchase protection, buyer support.
