Why in the News? Embarked on its historic voyage from Mumbai as the ‘Indian Ocean Ship’ (IOS SAGAR).
It was flagged off by the Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.
This mission involves naval personnel from 16 friendly nations alongside India.
Mission Phases and Itinerary:
Harbour Phase (March 16–29, 2026): Professional exchanges and coordination training were completed in Mumbai.
Sea Phase (May 2–20, 2026): Operational deployment in the South-Eastern Indian Ocean.
During this period, IOS SAGAR will make port calls at Colombo (Sri Lanka), Phuket (Thailand), Jakarta (Indonesia), Singapore, Chittagong (Bangladesh), Yangon (Myanmar), and Malé (Maldives), concluding its deployment in Kochi, India.
It is a Saryu-class Offshore Patrol Vessel of the Indian Navy.
