Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Scheme

  • Why in the news? Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mega Textile Park (Brownfield Park) in Warangal, Telangana.
    • It is the first operational park in the country.
  • Objective: To foster a robust national ecosystem for textile infrastructure .
    • To develop a complete textile value chain from spinning to garmenting using modern infrastructure and facilities.
  • Approach: The "5F" approach (Farm → Fiber → Factory → Fashion → Foreign) aims to integrate and expand the textile industry ecosystem.
  • Financial Outlay: Total ₹4,445 crore.
  • Implementation Period: 2021-22 to 2027-28 (seven years).
  • Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme
  • Capital Assistance
    • Greenfield Parks: The maximum limit of support per park will be ₹500 crore.
    • Brownfield Parks: Support up to ₹200 crore will be provided for the remaining infrastructure development.
  • Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Textiles.
    • Implementation Framework: Each PM MITRA Park will be developed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). The SPV  is a joint venture with a 51% share for the State Government and a 49% share for the Central Government.
    • Development Model: The project will be primarily operated on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
  • In March 2023, the establishment of seven PM MITRA Parks was approved.
